The South Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (SFHBPA) is dedicated to advocating for Thoroughbred racehorse owners, trainers, and backstretch personnel. We strive to ensure that their voices are heard in all matters related to the advancement of Thoroughbred racing in South Florida.
We as a group of independent Horsemen and Horsewomen, are ready to establish a true representative organization dedicated to serving the more than 6,500 owners and trainers in Florida.
We are currently in the process of affiliating with the National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (NHBPA) to become an affiliate. The NHBPA was established in 1940 and represents approximately 30,000 owners and trainers, and has representation in 28 jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. The SFHBPA, once established, will be committed to working for the betterment of racing at all levels and advocate for the rights of horsemen and horsewomen.
We are committed to the National HBPA motto: "Horsemen Helping Horsemen".
